Lenovo has officially announced its latest
addition to the tablet market, the IdeaPad S2109. The new Ice Cream Sandwich
slate measures 8.9mm thick and takes a page from the iPad with a 9.7-inch 4:3
aspect display, rather than the 10.1-inch (16:10) form factor most Android
tablets in that size range. It also sports the same 1024 x 768 resolution of
the previous generation iPad (The new model sports a 2048 x 1536 resolution).
Technical
specifications include a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera, four SRS-ready
speakers on the back, 10 hours of battery life, and ports for microUSB,
microHDMI and microSD. Lenovo hasn't revealed what processor or how much RAM
the IdeaTab S2109 will be using, but according to a source talking to Engadget the device is powered by an OMAP4 chip
and we assume it will carry 1GB of RAM.
The
video also doesn’t mention pricing or a release date. Given that Apple is now selling the iPad 2 for $399, Lenovo will have to go cheaper if
it wants to compete.
The CPU that powers the device as well as
memory storage capacity haven’t been revealed, but we know that the device will
come with the latest version of Android, 4.0 or Ice Cream Sandwich. As far as
battery life goes, Lenovo promises a full 10 hours.
