France is known for apparent neglect for age-appropriateness. A new line of “loungerie” (that’s lingerie plus loungewear) for girls from three months and up to twelve has been designed and sold via Jours Après Lunes
site. The underwear line for little girls market itself as “the first
designer brand dedicated to ‘loungerie’ for children and teenagers,
comprised of loungewear and lingerie to be worn over and under, inside
and outside.”
Actually, it looks like lingerie for adults and would be completely okay for women to wear but Jours Après Lunes
is producing this line for girls ages 3-12 (the “loungerie” for the 3
month – 36 month age range is actually age-appropriate and cute, thanks
God), so that mother and daughter can match. If to believe the website
this line’s designer has a long background in designing lingerie (for
adult women)-it’s obvious judging by loungerie pieces.
What’s worrying about Jours Après Lunes is not just the fact that
it’s lingerie for kids who probably shouldn’t be old enough to even know
what lingerie is, but the pictures on their website. The little girls
are have make-ups like grown women do and are sporting Amy Winehouse
style beehive hairdo, pretty playful sunglasses and pearls and somehow
remind Thylane Blondeau,
notorious French child model that made countless headlines last year
when she graced French Vogue. But Thylane was dressep up at least!
The whole photoshoot is unsettling. The way the young-looking model
(who seems to be the eldest among child models here) is posed with that
sunglasses-wearing teddy bear is made to look like a child, while the
little girls are made to look like adults.
What do you think? Should three-year-olds be walking around in bras
and panties, with nothing over them…With pearls, adult style sunglasses?
Does the idea of cladding little kids in those pretty provocative
bikinis make sense?
